This was our second to last Christmas market mini session day in Europe for 2021. For Christmas market mini sessions this year we’d done 7 different dates at different cities. Strasbourg was one of the original markets we’d selected for mini sessions this year. With covid closing several markets we’d planned to shoot at we were hoping Strasbourg would stay open. The previous weekends wed’ missed some closures by just a couple days and had to move locations. Our first year living here in Germany we went to a lot of Christmas markets. Strasbourg is one of the cities we came to when my sister came to town and we wanted to come back. The year after that covid closed everything down and borders were closed, markets were cancelled.

It’s like Christmas throws up on Strasbourg and we were so excited to be able to come back. When I first got there my first priority was figuring out where to shoot the Strasbourg Christmas market family photography sessions all day. The first setup I came upon was an enclosed area that seemed more geared towards kids. There was a carousel here and it was right in front of Cathédrale Notre Dame de Strasbourg. With it being a fairly large landmark I decided to make this the meeting point for the rest of the day. From there I made my way down to streets I had remembered seeing where there were a lot of decorations. After that I explored around the market’s vendors to find any good stands to shoot in front of.

From there I made my way down the main road that leads to the Cathédrale Notre Dame de Strasbourg. There were some great views here and I added this to my mental list of spots to shoot at. Later in the day I made my way over to the river front as I remembered they had stalls along the river and beautiful lights hanging in the trees. This was a great spot later in the day when it was darker and the lights were more visible. The schedule for the day definitely got thrown off as the traffic coming into town was heavy. With some cancellations and some having to come later we did a total of 8 mini sessions here. One of the mini sessions was even with an old friend I went to high school with and her wife and twins.

Crazy how small the world is and the people we run into at different times and locations. Others I had done mini sessions with the year before as well as earlier in the year. For some sessions I even got up on the carousel and got some fun family photos here with their children riding along. I shot from market open until sun down and had a great time capturing these Strasbourg Christmas market family photography sessions.
