BURG ELTZ MATERNITY PHOTOGRAPHY

Usually when we meet a couple there’s a little bit of a height difference but not much. When we met with the Kline family I immediately knew the height difference would make things interesting. Rachel and I have a little bit of a height difference so I understand the struggle. Our initial conversation was on Instagram and we forewent the announcement session due to her husband being deployed. He really liked Burg Eltz as the option for their photos so we planned it out and scheduled a date. On the day of the shoot we met down at the entrance to the castle in the afternoon. It’s hard to get shots at this location throughout the day as there are typically crowds of people. To get shots here without people shooting at sunrise is the best option.

We waited our turn and began our Burg Eltz maternity photography session at the beginning of the bridge. With the people behind them it was hard to get a shot without them in the background. So we moved closer to the main gate to get our next shots and we were able to get shots without people in the background. Once people saw we were doing a maternity shoot they stepped aside to let us get shots. Not everyone is so aware so we had to take some shots, wait, then take some more. With some great shots here we moved down to the stairs for the next shots.

GERMAN CASTLE PREGNANCY PHOTOS

I love this angle of the castle as you get your subject in line with the castle behind them. I had them stand and lean against the wall and then have a seat on the stairs next. We made our way down tot the bottom of the stairs and got some more shots on the trail before moving on. The next spot with the open field is a little harder to get to. You either have to cross the river, which can be pretty deep depending on the time of year, or climb down through a fairly steep hill with no trail. They were game to get the shots so they went through the forest with me down the steep hill. Once down here we took our time and got a variety of great shots. It’s a great spot as there typically aren’t any other people in the background and you’ve still got the castle in view.

After that we went back up to the trail and then I convinced them to continue climbing up. To get to the top of the hills surrounding the castle you can hike around a 30 minute trail or climb some very steep switchbacks. They were on board to climb the switchbacks and we made our way up to the top. This is another great spot as there are fewer people around so you don’t get them in the background. It’s also a great view of the castle looking down onto it. After we got some great shots here we made our way back down the mountain and got a few more shots on the road on the way out.
