I got to meet Alexis through doing a Kaiserslautern boudoir studio photography session with her friend, Amanda. Alexis came with Amanda for the session to support and be a cheerleader for her. Later in the year we’d do a sunflower boudoir mini session as well. Michael was planning a trip back to Kaiserslautern and they wanted to do a fun photo session in Rothenburg. It’s always hard to plan around weather living in Germany and the day we scheduled it was cloudy. When we got there the rain held off but mid session it began to rain. To begin the session we met in the city center and once we found each other we got under way.

Our first stop was in front of the Romantik Hotel Markusturm where they posed on the cobblestone road. The hotel has beautiful red shutters and with beautiful flowers in front of their windows. Seeing them together and getting to know them their love for one another was obvious. They both were beaming and were full of smiles which made my job super easy. I like to tell people I just capture the magic that already exists between people and these two had the magic. After that we went over to the iconic portion in Rothenburg, the Plönlein, which is a yellow building with the traditional timber framing architecture. I got some shots of them on the cobblestone road and then did some of them sitting on the railing on the side of the road.

From there we went out toward the end of the town where they have an overlook and a garden. On the way there was a fountain in the middle of the road with flowers around the road. I had them get up on the fountain and sit together, then just let them love on each other. After that we went down to the end of the town and found a section with some wooden beams over the path. Once we got a few shots here we went over to the wall where you can overlook the town. We turned around and there was the city walls that came to the gate. We went over in front of the gate and did some lifts and let them love on each other more.

From there we made our way back to the city square and then over toward St.Jakobskirche. On the way over we stopped with the lighting looking good and a colorful section of architecture. With a few quick shots here we continued toward a good spot I knew and it began to rain. I’d always wanted to take photos of a couple dancing in the rain and this was the perfect opportunity. Most of the time people don’t like rain but we were here and already getting wet so we embraced it and they began dancing in the rain. It made for some really fun and romantic photos and I’m happy they were on board to get wet in the rain.

There was another spot I knew of that we began to make our way to next. It was still raining and we made a stop next to the city wall. The spot I knew was further down the road in front of the klingentor where there’s a bridge and water in front of a church building. They sat there and laughed together and it was at this point I was thinking the shoot was done. Michael pulled me aside quickly and asked where a good spot to propose would be. I had a session lined up after them and we were next to a pretty road that worked well. The cobblestone was wet from the rain and you could see the church in the background with colorful buildings along the road. It was here he got down on one knee and asked Alexis to be his wife.

This was such a romantic afternoon with them, getting to witness their love. It progressed beautifully with them dancing in the rain to his proposing. I had a session after them and I had to meet them back at the city center. So with Michael and Alexis in tow I went back to the city center. While here I was able to capture some more beautiful shots with them piggy backing and them loving on one another.
