LUXEMBOURG CHRISTMAS MARKET FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY

This was our last of 7 different Christmas market mini session dates we were offering this year. The original plan was to do Rothenburg ob der Tauber Christmas market mini sessions but as we approached our date the market closed. This year was especially trick with covid because initially all the markets were going to be open.The year prior none of the markets were going to be open so we scheduled Kaiserslautern Christmas tree farm mini sessions. We knew the markets were not going to be open so we knew what we were going to do. This year with markets being open to start the season we made plans and then had to alter as we went. There were several markets that closed as we progressed and it made it difficult to coordinate. With around 100 mini sessions scheduled it was hard to keep everyone up to date.

Rothenburg ob der Tauber was one market we were especially looking forward to shooting at. With that market closed we began to reach out to people to see where else they had been. Luxembourg had come up repeatedly and so we went with that as it was a different location and still open. We’d made our way to Luxembourg a couple of times before as Rachel has family there. Rachel had gone to the Christmas market before with her family while I was in Spain. This was my first time at the Christmas markets so when I got there I had to scout. With covid regulations they split up the normal markets into several smaller markets.

EUROPEAN CHRISTMAS MARKET PHOTOGRAPHY

The one I chose for these Luxembourg Christmas market family photograph sessions was the one more kid friendly. This market had stalls setup with kids games, the usual gluhwein stalls, a huge Christmas tree, a ferris wheel and the German pyramid (wind mill looking structure). With it being a smaller market I did my best to find little spots where there were less people. Sessions earlier in the day were easier to avoid crowds with but later in the day got challenging. I got to shoot with couples, families and even a mother/daughter duo. One family had the paper version of their vaccination records but weren’t allowed in because it wasn’t digital. So we went around the local streets and got some fun photos with all the decor up around town.

Even with it being hectic trying to schedule and bad weather (it rained off an on all day) we still got great shots. We were so happy to be out an about and to even be at Christmas markets this year. We’ll be sad to leave Europe and we’ll especially miss these Christmas markets in every country.
