BERNKASTEL-KUES CHRISTMAS MARKET PHOTOGRAPHY

This date was the only original date that we had planned to shoot our Christmas market mini sessions at Bernkastel-Kues. Due to covid other markets unfortunately began closing as we progressed through December. It was hard to factor in which markets were going to be open week to week. Most of my clients who were interested in Christmas market mini sessions worked during the week. So weekends were really the only viable option for sessions. This made the amount of sessions we could take limited. Our original plan was to shoot 4 days on 2 different weekends at 4 different markets. In the end we ended up with 7 different days at 4 different locations over the course of 3 weekends, and a holiday Friday added in.

The initial interest was way more than we were anticipating or expecting. When we first announced our Christmas market mini sessions we thought we would fill up but our inbox was crazy. I had the great idea to post the announcement while we were in the Dolomites doing our elopement photos. Thankfully we still got to enjoy our elopement and our visit to the Dolomites but it was hard to keep track of everyone. Some people responded right away and I was able to get them scheduled. Then there were deposits to keep track of. Then I thought it would be a great idea to add in more dates and those quickly filled up.

She was right, I delivered the last gallery on Christmas Eve. Once I got the sessions complete it was back to the house and sorting through then editing at least 3-4 sessions a day. With just around 100 Christmas mini sessions scheduled it definitely made for the busiest time of the year. This day, that was originally going to be our only day shooting here, ended up being our 3rd or 4 days shooting here. I always do my best to give variety, even if I’m shooting in the same location day after day. I try not to get stuck in a rut or give everyone the same photos. During the previous 2 days I found my set spots that I knew were good for photos and then would rotate around those spots. Changing posing and angles helped and having a variety of people come through was also helpful.

On this day we had the following families come out: Padua, Ryone, Kennedy, Glascock, Lindsey, Hatchell, Klug and Tellez. Some of these were fellow photographers and it was great to be called upon to capture their photos. Others were people we had mutual friends with and finally got to meet. All of them were first time clients and we were happy to have them come out for these Bernkastel-Kues Christmas market photography sessions. Wherever we are in the world during Christmas time you can probably guarantee we’ll be doing Christmas mini sessions.
