Back before I became a photographer I was a graphic designer and I met the Partlow family. I was just a budding and aspiring designer looking for opportunities to design when I met them. Both Marshall and Lindsay worked at an organization in Colorado Springs where I began to intern. Every month I would design their monthly newsletter to all of it’s members worldwide. After moving on from there, several years went by before we got in touch again. When we got in touch the Partlows they were looking to do a family session with their extended family. Garden of the Gods is a beautiful location and gave a beautiful setting for this Rock Ledge Ranch family photography session.

Upon arrival I walked around the location to scope it out and where some good locations would be. I do this with all new locations to make the most of our session and time together. Here at the Rock Ledge Ranch I saw that there were a number of really pretty spots to utilize for the session. Once we saw the family, we began at a little old house with a brick area on the side. This brick area is where we got pictures of all of the children together. After that we took a little bit of a hike up into the large field area. This area connects to the Garden of the Gods park and is where we got photos of the whole family. We also got shots with individual families as the sun began to set behind the Rocky Mountains.

We went back to our starting point where there was a duck pond and another open field. Here we were able to get more photos with the whole family and more shots with individual families. It was great to reconnect with the Partlow family and to work with their whole family at this beautiful location.
